Hannaford Grocery Chain Breach (Part 2)

malware2.jpgAs predicted current malware is rendering anti-viruses obsolete with embedded self-morphing capabilities, that fools them into thinking they are legitimate processes running on the computers. The company has already settled a lawsuit by which it settled for accusations that they did not take enough data protection measures in their stores. The said breach happened as POS terminals sent transaction data back to their main server allowing the leakage of estimated 4.2 million credit card information from customers. Experts are not ruling out the chance of an inside job for intrusion prevention systems were in place yet proved to be inadequate. More lawsuits are expected but the company seems willing to settle for it prevents them from having to discuss the details of the breach from the public which can break the confidence of their customers.
