Hannaford Grocery Chain Breach (Part 1)

malware.jpgThe grocery chain had 300 locations to which malware were installed allowing hackers to obtain credit card numbers, expiration dates and other credit relevant information. This is considered to be one of the most damaging attacks by malware on commercial sites that has all 300 servers infected. The store management says the attack used a new and sophisticated approach that eluded detection allowing the malware to do it’s job right under the noses of security software. The huge number of servers infected raises alarm bells in the IT community and many are up and testing their own intrusion prevention systems to prevent such incidents from happening to them.
