Social Security to go High Tech
Even the Social Security has begun to beef up security in the area of its disability and claims checks. The government announced that it is undergoing implementation of the use of debit cards instead of the standard checks that are mailed out monthly due to several incidents of people using other people’s checks and claiming the proceeds for personal use. The incidents of identity theft has now reached a level when nothing is safe and that all is fair game. Criminals have long targeted and used the Social Security system vulnerability to drain the economy of substantial amounts of cash for use in other criminal activity. This move would eliminate the paper check replacing them with debit cards which can be easily secured with other technology such as biometrics or other personal information authentication system.
