Information – The Cyber-Criminal’s New Gold Standard

The internet has changed the lives of all people on earth, getting news out faster than traditional media, reaching out to for social functions and many more. It has also become the battle ground between the people who aim to gain information and those who own them, with the people who protect us from such attacks in the middle. Information is the new standard by which a malicious attack is gauged, or better yet how much information was lost, leached or even leached out of your fingertips even with proper and respectable security software installed.
Information is knowledge and knowledge is power, the old adage goes and it seems to be the norm over the internet with hackers trying to get their hands on as much information they can from unsuspecting people who leave their desk for some coffee and unknowingly sends his personal login and passwords to all social sites, online banking facilities and more, victim of a key logger that sensed the inactivity of the user, sending the gathered data to it’s maker in a flash. The problem is, even with the thousand dollar anti-virus suites installed on corporate servers, they are still getting hacked and that doesn’t count the amount of money lost to credit card fraud which is also being used over the internet to purchase goods. Information is what makes you who you are, the what-when-where and who you really are and surely, somewhere on a cumputer linked to the internet, it sits unguarded ready to be preyed upon by malware ripe for the picking.
