Search Engines - Targeted
Search engines are again being targeted due to their increased popularity on the internet (who doesn’t use them???). Weaknesses in the security of their web sites have them being probed again and again for vulnerabilities which if found are immediately exploited. Similar to the past Google Attacks which had several hundred seemingly valid and authorized sites created and loaded with malicious code. When a search is done, these fake websites which even look like the legit ones unload their malware payload which infects the unsuspecting computer. The user, completely unaware anything is wrong, continues to search after finding the site not to be what he was looking for, becoming the next step in the malware’s long trail of destruction. From identity theft to other more dangerous crimes such as industrial espionage they all fall into place for the malware do their attacks from within not giving intrusion prevention software from doing its job.
